-"Dear Mr. Brillouin. It was most kind of you to send me "le premier exemplaire" of the beautiful volume first brought out by Mr Lugol and yourself. I feel deeply indebted to you both for all the care you have bestowed on my work, and I may be excused some natural pride unseeing it presented to french readers in such admirable form.
I have been great interested in your Notes and particularly note III. With the drawings making clear and intelligible the imperfectible described model for elastic solid, of my Baltimore lectures, and with your simplified me thod of arrangement for the controlling card. Which will be very useful to me. It happened that whole I received your volume. I was engaged on the subject and very anxious both to set my old treatment of it put into better form, and to arrive at more clear and definite conclusion. In all this I shall be much helped by your Notes. [...]".
